Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

“The next day John again was standing with two of his disciples, and as he watched Jesus walk by, he exclaimed, “Look, here is the Lamb of God!” We are still very close in time to the celebrations of Christmas, and while the readings direct us to the testimony of John the Baptist, it is worth meditating on the mysterious words he spoke in the light of the message of the angel to the shepherds on the night of Christmas. “And this shall be a sign to you, a child wrapped in swaddling clothes, laying in a manger.” The angel indicated that the shepherds would understand everything with the sign of the swaddling bands.
