Maroniteparchy

The Maronite Church traces its ecclesial history to the monastic movement of St. Maron. Because of this, the Maronite Church has been formed by specific monastic virtues, first among them is the reverential awe before God, a holy fear, a blessed terror before the Almighty. Like Moses before the burning bush (Ex 3:2), like Elijah on Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18:16-46), our monastic fathers were deeply imbued by a holy fear, a reverential awe. One might imagine that living within the rhythm of the monastery the monk might become complacent, even comfortable with God. However, if one is really praying, if one draws really close to God, in a truly authentic way, the consequence is a great reverence and a holy fear.
