Η Μαριάμ επισκέπτεται την Ελισάβετ
( Λουκάς 1 / 39 - 45)

Αμέσως ύστερα, η Μαριάμ σηκώθηκε και πήγε
γρήγορα σε μια πόλη της ορεινής Ιουδαίας μπήκε στο σπίτι
του Ζαχαρία και χαιρέτησε την Ελισάβετ. Μόλις εκείνη
άκουσε το χαιρετισμό της Μαρίας, το βρέφος που ήταν στα
σπλάχνα της σκίρτησε. Η Ελισάβετ τότε πλημμύρισε με το
Άγιο Πνεύμα και φώναξε με δυνατή φωνή: «Ευλογημένη
απ' το Θεό είσαι εσύ, περισσότερο από όλες τις γυναίκες!
Ευλογημένο και το παιδί που έχεις στα σπλάχνα σου! Αλλά
πώς μου έγινε αυτή η τιμή να με επισκεφθεί η μητέρα του
Κυρίου μου; Μόλις έφτασε στ' αυτιά μου η φωνή του
χαιρετισμού σου, σκίρτησε από αγαλλίαση το παιδί στα
σπλάχνα μου. Χαρά σ' αυτήν που πίστεψε ότι θα
εκπληρωθούν τα λόγια που της είπε ο Κύριος».

Αγαπητά εν Χριστώ αδέλφια,

Δεν χρειάζεται να ελέγχετε καθημερινά τα μέσα
κοινωνικής δικτύωσης για να ξέρετε ότι ο κόσμος μας
βρίσκεται σε άσχημη κατάσταση. Δεν υπάρχουν καλές
ειδήσεις που να μας δίνουν ελπίδα, που να μας
ενθαρρύνουν να πιστέψουμε ότι το αύριο μας θα είναι
ηλιόλουστο, δεν υπάρχουν καλές ειδήσεις που να κάνουν
τα παιδιά να ονειρεύονται ότι ο κόσμος στον οποίο
μεγαλώνουν είναι ένας καλός κόσμος για να ζουν. Δεν θα
μπορούσαν να υπάρξουν κάποια καλά νέα που θα
υπερέβαιναν τα δραματικά γεγονότα που περνάει ο κόσμος
μας; Πριν από περισσότερα από 2.000 χρόνια, μια καλή
είδηση κυκλοφορούσε σε αυτή την περιοχή της Μέσης
Ανατολής που σήμερα «φλέγεται» από τη βαρβαρότητα
ενός ανελέητου πολέμου. Αυτή η καλή είδηση πήρε σάρκα
και οστά στην καρδιά ενός κοριτσιού που ονομαζόταν
Μαρία...
Έχοντας υποδεχθεί τον Λόγο του Θεού που έλαβε
σάρκα και οστά, μετά την αναγγελία του αγγέλου του
Κυρίου, η Μαρία δεν έμεινε στο σπίτι. Η χαρά που έλαβε
από τον ευαγγελισμό την οδήγησε να τρέξει στη συγγενή
της Ελισάβετ για να μοιραστεί μαζί της τη χαρά των
θαυμάτων αυτού του Θεού, για τον οποίο τίποτα δεν είναι
αδύνατο, που δίνει απόγονο σε μια στείρα γυναίκα και
δίνει το παιδί του σε μια Παρθένο.
Περισσότερο από μια επίσκεψη φιλίας ή
αλληλοβοήθειας μεταξύ της Μαρίας και της Ελισάβετ,
είναι μια αμοιβαία αποκάλυψη για την οποία μας μιλάει
αυτή η επίσκεψη. Κάθε μία από τις δύο γυναίκες
αποκαλύπτει στην άλλη το μυστήριο της εκπληκτικής
μητρότητάς της. Ο χαιρετισμός της Μαρίας αποκαλύπτει
στην Ελισάβετ ότι φέρει το μυστήριο του ενσαρκωμένου
Θεού. Η Ελισάβετ αποκαλύπτει στη Μαρία ότι είναι η
μητέρα του Σωτήρα μέσα από την έκρηξη χαράς του
παιδιού της υπόσχεσης που κυοφορεί. Η Μαρία απαντά
στη χαρά της Ελισάβετ που αισθάνεται το παιδί να πηδάει
μέσα της με ένα τραγούδι αγαλλίασης, ένα άλμα πίστης
που την συγκινεί: «Χαρά σ' αυτήν που πίστεψε ότι θα
εκπληρωθούν τα λόγια που της είπε ο Κύριος».
Είναι αυτή η συγκίνηση της πίστης, όπως
επισημαίνει ο Πάπας Φραγκίσκος, που λείπει από τις
καρδιές μας, συνηθισμένες να ακούμε τον Λόγο του Θεού
κάθε Κυριακή, χωρίς αυτός ο Λόγος να διατηρεί τη γεύση
των Καλών Ειδήσεων για να αγγίζει τις καρδιές μας, να
μας μεταστρέφει, να αντλεί συνεχώς τη χαρά της ελπίδας
στη ζωή μας και να μας φωτίζει ώστε να μπορούμε να
αντιμετωπίσουμε τις δοκιμασίες της ζωής μας. Πώς, χωρίς
αυτό το Καλό Άγγελμα, μπορούμε να εξακολουθούμε να
έχουμε εμπιστοσύνη στην παρουσία του Κυρίου εν μέσω
των καταιγίδων της ζωής μας, ότι είναι μαζί μας ό,τι κι αν
συμβεί, ότι ό,τι είναι αδύνατο για εμάς δεν είναι αδύνατο
γι' Αυτόν και ότι μαζί με τη Μαρία μπορούμε να
ευχαριστούμε για όλα και παρ' όλα όσα μας συμβαίνουν;
Πώς, χωρίς να μεταφέρουμε αυτά τα καλά νέα στους
άλλους, μπορούμε να γίνουμε ακόμα, όπως η Μαρία,
μάρτυρες ότι ο Κύριος θέλει να μας σώσει και να μοιραστεί
τη ζωή Του μαζί μας μέσα στη χαρά της ελπίδας;
Η προθυμία της Μαρίας να πάει στο σπίτι της
ξαδέλφης της πρέπει επίσης να είναι η προθυμία του
καθενός από εμάς να προσεγγίσουμε τους άλλους: στις
οικογένειές μας, στις ενορίες μας, στον κόσμο της
εργασίας, στους γείτονές μας... να μεταφέρουμε τη χαρά
του Ευαγγελίου, όχι με λόγια, αλλά πρωτίστως με τη
μαρτυρία της ζωής μας: αυτό μπορεί να πάρει τη μορφή
μιας απλής παρουσίας στους άλλους, να τους ακούσουμε,
να προσπαθήσουμε να τους καταλάβουμε, να τους
παρηγορήσουμε, να τους βοηθήσουμε να ελπίζουν ενάντια
και παρά τα πάντα...

Προσευχή: Παρθένε και Μητέρα Μαρία, εσύ που,
κινούμενη από το Πνεύμα, υποδέχτηκες τον Λόγο της ζωής
με ταπεινή πίστη και μια καρδιά ολοκληρωτικά
παραδομένη στον Κύριο, βοήθησέ μας να έχουμε τέτοια
πίστη και μια καρδιά γεμάτη ευγνωμοσύνη για τον Κύριο,
ώστε, όπως εσύ, να μεταφέρουμε με προθυμία τα καλά νέα
για τον Ιησού, τον αγαπημένο σου Υιό, τον Σωτήρα μας,
σε όλους εκείνους με τους οποίους ζούμε και
συναντιόμαστε. Αμήν.

5th Sunday in Advent
The Visitation
Luke 1: 39-45

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

There is no need to check the social media every day to realize that our
world is going badly. No good news that gives hope, encourages us to
believe that our tomorrows will be sunny, or dreams for children that the
world they are growing up in is a place where it is good to live. Could
there be good news that transcends the dramatic events our world is
experiencing? Over 2000 years ago, there circulated Good News in the
Middle East, which is currently "engulfed" by the brutality of a merciless
war. This Good News took flesh in the heart of a girl called Mary...
Having welcomed the Word of God made flesh, following the
announcement of the angel of the Lord, Mary did not stay at home. The
joy she received from this announcement led her to run to her relative
Elizabeth to share with her the joy of the wonders of this God for whom
nothing is impossible, who gives offspring to a barren woman and gives
his child to a Virgin.
More than a visit of friendship or mutual aid between Mary and Elizabeth,
it is a mutual revelation that this visit tells us about. Each woman reveals
to the other the mystery of their astonishing maternity. Mary, through her
greeting reveals to Elizabeth that she bears the mystery of God incarnate.
Elisabeth reveals to Mary that she is the mother of the Savior through the
joy of the child of promise she carries. To Elizabeth's happiness in feeling
the child leap within her, Mary responds with a song of exultation, a
trembling of faith that animates her: "Blessed is she who believed that
there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord."
As Pope Francis points out, it is this leap of faith that is missing from our
hearts, accustomed to listening to the Word of God every Sunday, without
this Word retaining its flavor of Good News to touch our hearts, to convert
us, to constantly draw the joy of hope into our lives, and to enlighten us
so that we can face the trials in our lives. How, without this Good News,
can we remain confident of the Lord's presence in the midst of the storms
of our lives, that He is with us whatever happens, that the impossible for
us is not impossible for Him, and that with Mary we can give thanks for
everything and despite everything that happens to us? How, without
bringing this Good News to others, can we still become, like Mary,
witnesses that the Lord wants to save us and share His life with us in the
joy of hope?
Mary's eagerness to go to her cousin's house must also be the eagerness
of each and every one of us to reach out to others: in our families, in our
parishes, in the workplace, with our neighbors... to bring the joy of the
Gospel, not in words, but first and foremost through the witness of our
lives: this can take the form of a simple presence to others, to listen to
them, to try to understand them, to console them, to help them to hope
against and despite everything...

Prayer:
Virgin and Mother Mary, you who, inspired by the Spirit, welcomed the
Word of life with humble faith and a heart totally surrendered to the
Eternal, help us to have such faith and a heart full of gratitude for the Lord
in order to carry, like you, with eagerness the Good News, who is Jesus,
your beloved Son, our Savior, to all those with whom we live and whom
we meet.

5ème Dimanche du temps de l’Avent

La Visitation
Luc 1 : 39-45

Chers frères et sœurs en Christ,

Pas besoin de consulter les « social media » au quotidien pour deviner que
notre monde va mal. Pas de bonnes nouvelles qui donnent à espérer, qui
nous encouragent à croire que nos lendemains seront ensoleillés, pas de
bonnes nouvelles qui font rêver les enfants que le monde dans lequel ils
grandissent est un monde dans lequel il fait bon vivre. N’y aurait-il pas
une bonne nouvelle qui transcenderait les évènements dramatiques que vit
notre monde ? Il y a plus de 2000 ans, circulait une Bonne Nouvelle dans
cette région du Moyen Orient qui se trouve actuellement « embrasée » par
la barbarie d’une guerre sans merci. Cette Bonne Nouvelle a pris chair
dans le cœur d’une fille appelée Marie…
Ayant accueilli en elle la Parole de Dieu faite chair, suite à l’annonce de
l’ange du Seigneur, Marie ne resta pas figée chez elle. Cette joie reçue par
cette annonciation l’entraine à courir vers sa parente Elizabeth pour
partager avec elle la joie des merveilles de ce Dieu pour qui rien n’est
impossible, qui donne une progéniture à une femme stérile et donne son
enfant à une Vierge.
Plus qu'une visite d'amitié ou d’entraide entre Marie et Elizabeth, c’est
une révélation mutuelle que cette visitation nous raconte. Chacune des
deux femmes révèle à l'autre le mystère de leur étonnante maternité.
Marie, de par sa salutation révèle à Élisabeth qu'elle porte le mystère de
Dieu incarné. Élisabeth révèle à Marie qu'elle est mère du Sauveur par le
tressaillement de joie de l’enfant de la promesse qu’elle porte. Au bonheur
d'Élisabeth de sentir l'enfant tressaillir en elle, Marie répond par un chant
d'exultation, de tressaillement de foi qui l’anime : « Heureuse celle qui a
cru à l’accomplissement des paroles qui lui furent dites de la part du
Seigneur ».
C’est bien ce tressaillement de la foi, comme le souligne le pape
François, qui manque à nos cœurs habitués à écouter la Parole de Dieu
tous les dimanches, sans que cette Parole garde sa saveur de Bonne
Nouvelle pour nous toucher le cœur, pour nous convertir, pour dessiner
sans cesse la joie de l’espérance dans notre vie et pour nous éclairer afin
de pouvoir affronter les épreuves dans notre vie. Comment, sans cette
Bonne Nouvelle, garder encore confiance de la présence du Seigneur au
milieu des tempêtes de notre vie, qu’Il est avec nous quoi qu’il arrive, que
l’impossible pour nous ne l’est pas pour Lui et qu’avec Marie nous
pouvons rendre grâce pour tout et malgré tout ce qui se passe avec nous ?
Comment sans porter cette Bonne Nouvelle aux autres nous pourrons
encore devenir, à l’instar de Marie, témoins que le Seigneur veut nous
sauver et nous partager dans la joie de l’espérance Sa vie ?
L’empressement de Marie pour aller chez sa cousine, doit être aussi
l'empressement même de chacun et de chacune d'entre nous pour aller
vers les autres : dans nos familles, dans nos paroisses, dans le monde du
travail, avec nos voisins… pour porter, non en paroles mais d’abord et
surtout par le témoignage de notre vie la joie de l’Evangile : cela peut
prendre la forme d’une simple présence aux autres, pour les écouter, pour
essayer de les comprendre, pour les consoler, pour les aider à espérer
contre et malgré tout…

Prière :
Vierge et Mère Marie, toi qui, animée par l’Esprit, as accueilli le Verbe
de la vie avec une foi humble et un cœur totalement abandonné à l’Éternel,
aide-nous à avoir une telle foi et un cœur plein de reconnaissance pour le
Seigneur afin de porter, comme toi, avec empressement la Bonne
Nouvelle, qui est Jésus, ton Fils bien aimé, notre Sauveur, à tous ceux et
celles auprès desquels nous vivons et que nous rencontrons.

4th Sunday of the Advent

The Annunciation
Luke 1:26-38

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Is it not a paradox to celebrate the announcement of good news
accompanied by an invitation to joy, while so much bad news assails us
through the media, leaving us with so much anxiety for the future, so
much sorrow, so much disappointment, so much discontent that gnaw at
our hearts ? How can we still rejoice at the news of the fulfilment of
salvation that God brings us through the advent of his only Son into our
world?
The joy God brings us is not of this world, it comes from Him, He is our
joy, as Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus tells us, provided that we accept,
like the Virgin Mary, to welcome Him as the Gospel of salvation in our
lives, to enter into the mystery of His Love and contemplate the miracles
He performs in hearts that are gentle and humble, simple and open to His
grace, like Mary's heart.
Yet, accepting this Good News does not come without a sense of fear,
without meditation to realize how infinitely small we are in face of God's
infinitely great love for us. Mary found it hard to believe the angel's
greeting and was overwhelmed, even though the angel reassured her: "Do
not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God".
For Mary, finding favor with God is not a privilege, but a call to fulfill a
mission: to give life to the one who came to bring life in abundance for
the salvation of the world. So she listens attentively to God's Word, to
give it flesh in her flesh, in her heart, by humbly being at His service. This
will come through her free response, but also and above all through her
abandonment into God's hands!
Following Mary's example, can we too welcome with joy the good news
of the living Gospel that is Jesus Christ the Son of God, despite the
difficult circumstances that complicate our lives, despite the troubled
times of wars, crises, epidemics...?
We too are called to listen, to welcome the Word so that it can be born in
us. We can't carry the Word of God inside us as Mary did. Yet, it is indeed
a true birth in us of this Word. If Christ is not incarnated in our flesh, he
can nevertheless come into us to fill us with his life, so that his Word can
take root, bear fruit and multiply in us. We will then keep this Word like
Mary. And we too will bear fruit in ourselves and around us.
Let us remember that we have been baptized, that we have become sons
and daughters of God through Jesus, his only Son, that we are loved and
forgiven, and that we have been sent together to bear witness through our
lives to all that God has done for us and in us, just as he did with the Virgin
Mary.
Let us remember that this good news entrusted to us to bring to others will
bear no fruit without our "yes". With Mary, let us repeat: “I am the Lord’s
servant. Let this thing you have said happen to me!!

Prayer:
With Saint Bernard, we pray to the Virgin Mary:
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that
anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your
intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you,
O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand,
sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my
petitions, but in your clemency, hear and answer me. Amen

4ème Dimanche du temps de l’Avent

L’Annonciation
Luc 1, 26-38

Chers frères et sœurs en Christ,

N’est-il pas paradoxal de célébrer l’annonce d’une Bonne Nouvelle qui
s’accompagne d’un appel à être dans la joie tandis que tant de mauvaises
nouvelles nous assaillent dans les médias, nous laissant avec tant
d’inquiétudes sur l’avenir, tant de chagrins, de déceptions, tant de
malaises qui nous rongent le cœur ? Comment peut-on encore entrer dans
la joie à l’annonce de l’accomplissement de la promesse de salut que Dieu
nous apporte par l’avènement de Son Fils unique venu dans notre monde ?
La joie que Dieu nous apporte n’est pas de ce monde, elle nous vient de
Lui, c’est Lui notre joie, comme nous le dit Ste Thérèse de l’Enfant Jésus,
dès lors que nous acceptons, comme la Vierge Marie, de l’accueillir
comme Bonne Nouvelle de salut dans notre vie, d’entrer dans le mystère
de Son Amour et de contempler Ses merveilles qu’Il opère dans les cœurs
doux et humbles, simples et ouverts à Sa grâce, comme dans celui de
Marie.
Pourtant, accueillir cette Bonne Nouvelle ne va pas sans ce sentiment de
crainte, sans recueillement pour prendre conscience de l’infiniment petits
que nous sommes devant l’infiniment grand de l’amour de Dieu pour
nous. Marie a peine à croire à cette salutation de l’ange pour elle et s’en
trouve bouleversée alors que l’ange la rassure : « Ne crains point, Marie,
car tu as trouvé grâce devant Dieu ».
Trouver grâce devant Dieu n’était pas pour Marie un privilège mais une
vocation pour remplir une mission celle de donner vie à Celui qui est venu
apporter la vie en abondance pour le salut du monde. Aussi sera-t-elle à
l’écoute de la Parole de Dieu, pour lui donner chair dans sa chair, dans
son cœur en étant humblement à Son service. Cela passera par sa réponse
libre mais aussi et surtout par son abandon entre les mains de Dieu !
A l’instar de Marie, pourrions-nous nous aussi accueillir avec joie la
Bonne Nouvelle de l’Evangile vivant qu’est Jésus Christ Fils de Dieu
malgré les circonstances difficiles qui compliquent nos vies, malgré ces
périodes troublées par les guerres, les crises, les épidémies… ?
Nous sommes appelés, nous aussi, à écouter, à accueillir la Parole pour
qu’elle naisse en nous. Nous ne porterons pas en nous le Verbe de Dieu
comme Marie l’a porté. Pourtant, il s’agit bien d’une véritable naissance
en nous de cette Parole. Si le Christ ne prend pas chair dans notre chair, il
peut cependant venir en nous pour nous remplir de sa vie et pour que sa
Parole s’enracine, fructifie et se multiplie en nous. Alors, nous garderons
cette Parole comme Marie a su la garder. Et nous porterons nous aussi du
fruit en nous et autour de nous.
Rappelons-nous que nous avons été baptisés, devenus fils et filles de Dieu
par Jésus Son Fils unique, que nous sommes aimés, pardonnés et que nous
sommes envoyés ensemble pour témoigner par notre vie de tout ce que
Dieu a fait pour nous et en nous comme Il l’a fait avec la Vierge Marie.
Rappelons-nous que cette Bonne Nouvelle qui nous est confiée pour la
porter aux autres ne portera pas de fruits sans notre oui. Avec Marie,
redisons-le : « Oui, que tout m’advienne selon ta Parole ! »

Prière :
Avec St Bernard, nous prions la Vierge Marie :
Souvenez-vous ô très miséricordieuse Vierge Marie, qu’on n’a jamais
entendu dire qu’aucun de ceux qui ont eu recours à votre protection ou
réclamé votre secours ou imploré votre assistance ait été abandonné.
Animé de cette confiance, ô ma mère, je viens vers vous, et gémissant sous
le poids de mes péchés, je me prosterne à vos pieds.
Ô Mère du Verbe incarné, ne rejetez pas mes prières, mais écoutez-les
favorablement et daignez les exaucer.

3η Κυριακή της Περιόδου Της Παρουσίας
Ο Ευαγγελισμός του Ζαχαρία
Λουκάς 1, 1-25

Πολλοί προσπάθησαν να συντάξουν μια διήγηση για
τα γεγονότα, που είναι βεβαιωμένο ότι συνέβησαν
ανάμεσά μας, όπως μας τα παρέδωσαν εκείνοι που από την
αρχή ήταν αυτόπτες μάρτυρες και έγιναν κήρυκες αυτού
του χαρμόσυνου μηνύματος. Γι' αυτό θεώρησα κι εγώ
καλό, εντιμότατε Θεόφιλε, αφού ερεύνησα όλα τα
γεγονότα από την αρχή και με ακρίβεια, να σου τα γράψω
με τη σειρά, για να βεβαιωθείς ότι τα όσα διδάχθηκες είναι
αυθεντικά.
Την εποχή που βασιλιάς στην Ιουδαία ήταν ο Ηρώδης,
ζούσε κάποιος ιερέας από την ιερατική τάξη του Άβιά, που
τον έλεγαν Ζαχαρία η γυναίκα του λεγόταν Ελισάβετ,
απόγονος του Ααρών. Ήταν και οι δύο άνθρωποι πιστοί
στο Θεό, και η ζωή τους ήταν άμεμπτη, σύμφωνη με το
νόμο και τις εντολές του Κυρίου. Δεν είχαν όμως παιδί,
γιατί η Ελισάβετ ήταν στείρα, και ήταν κι οι δυο τους
περασμένης ηλικίας.
Όταν ήρθε η σειρά να εφημερεύσει η τάξη του
Ζαχαρία κι αυτός εκτελούσε τα ιερατικά του καθήκοντα
προς το Θεό, συνέβη να του ανατεθεί με κλήρο – όπως
συνηθιζόταν να μοιράζονται τα ιερατικά καθήκοντα– να
μπει στο ναό του Κυρίου και να προσφέρει θυμίαμα. Όλο
το πλήθος του λαού, την ώρα του θυμιάματος,
προσευχόταν έξω. Τότε εμφανίστηκε στο Ζαχαρία ένας
άγγελος Κυρίου, και στάθηκε στα δεξιά του θυσιαστηρίου
του θυμιάματος. Ο Ζαχαρίας ταράχτηκε, όταν τον είδε, και
τον κυρίεψε φόβος. Ο άγγελος όμως του είπε: «Μη
φοβάσαι, Ζαχαρία, γιατί η προσευχή σου εισακούστηκε: η
γυναίκα σου η Ελισάβετ θα σου γεννήσει γιο, και θα του
δώσεις το όνομα Ιωάννης. Θα νιώσεις χαρά και αγαλλίαση
και θα χαρούν πολλοί για τη γέννησή του. Η προσφορά του
θα είναι μεγάλη στο έργο του Κυρίου· κρασί και άλλα
δυνατά ποτά δε θα πιει, θα είναι γεμάτος με Πνεύμα Άγιο
ήδη από την κοιλιά της μάνας του και θα κάνει πολλούς
Ισραηλίτες να επιστρέψουν στον Κύριο το Θεό τους.
Αυτός θα προπορευτεί στο έργο του Κυρίου με το πνεύμα
και τη δύναμη του προφήτη Ηλία. Θα συμφιλιώσει πατέρες
με παιδιά, και θα κάνει τους ασεβείς να αποκτήσουν τη
φρόνηση των δικαίων. Έτσι θα ετοιμάσει το λαό να
υποδεχτεί τον Κύριο». Ο Ζαχαρίας είπε στον άγγελο:
«Πώς μπορώ να βεβαιωθώ γι' αυτό; Εγώ είμαι πια γέρος
και η γυναίκα μου περασμένης ηλικίας». Ο άγγελος του
αποκρίθηκε: «Εγώ είμαι ο Γαβριήλ, που βρίσκομαι δίπλα
στο Θεό. Με έστειλε να σου μιλήσω και να σου αναγγείλω
αυτή την ευχάριστη είδηση. Επειδή όμως δεν πίστεψες στα
λόγια μου, τα οποία θα πραγματοποιηθούν στην ώρα τους,
απ' αυτή τη στιγμή θα χάσεις τη λαλιά σου. Δε θα μπορείς
να μιλήσεις ως την ημέρα που όλα αυτά θα
πραγματοποιηθούν». Ο λαός στο μεταξύ περίμενε το
Ζαχαρία και απορούσε για την αργοπορία του μέσα στο
ναό. Όταν βγήκε δεν μπορούσε να τους μιλήσει, και
κατάλαβαν ότι κάποιο όραμα είχε δει μέσα στο ναό.
Εκείνος τους έκανε νοήματα και παρέμενε άλαλος. Όταν
τελείωσαν οι μέρες της υπηρεσίας του στο ναό, πήγε στο
σπίτι του. Μερικές μέρες αργότερα, η γυναίκα του η
Ελισάβετ έμεινε έγκυος. Έκρυβε όμως την εγκυμοσύνη
της για πέντε μήνες και έλεγε: «Ο Θεός είδε τη στενοχώρια
μου και φρόντισε να με απαλλάξει από την ντροπή που
ένιωθα μπροστά στους ανθρώπους για την ατεκνία μου».

Αγαπητά εν Χριστώ αδέλφια,

Με την αναγγελία στον Ζαχαρία, εισερχόμαστε άμεσα
στην περίοδο της προετοιμασίας των Χριστουγέννων
σύμφωνα με το λειτουργικό έτος της Μαρωνιτικής μας
Εκκλησίας. Η ανανεωμένη δέσμευσή μας στην πίστη μας
στον Χριστό γίνεται ακόμη πιο σαφής καθώς
αναλογιζόμαστε δύο μορφές από την Παλαιά Διαθήκη: τον
Αβραάμ και τον Ζαχαρία. Αυτό που έχουν κοινό είναι ότι
και οι δύο έλαβαν μια υπόσχεση από τον Κύριο. Η πίστη
και των δύο ανδρών στον Θεό και η ελπίδα τους στο
αδύνατο τέθηκαν σε δοκιμασία. Ωστόσο, μια διαφορά
ξεχωρίζει, ποια ;
Ενώ ο Αβραάμ, όπως μας λέει ο Απόστολος Παύλος
στην επιστολή του προς Ρωμαίους, ήλπιζε παρά την
ελπίδα, πίστευε και δεν κλονίστηκε στην πίστη του όταν,
σχεδόν εκατό ετών, παρόλο που θεωρούσε ότι το σώμα του
είχε ήδη σημαδευτεί από τον θάνατο και ότι η Σάρα δεν
μπορούσε πλέον να γεννήσει παιδιά, ανακαλύπτουμε τον
ιερέα Ζαχαρία, έναν εκπρόσωπο του λαού, που
θεωρούνταν δίκαιος ενώπιον του Θεού, προσφέροντας μια
θυσία στο όνομά Του, δείχνει μια κάποια αμηχανία στο να
υποδεχτεί την καλή είδηση ότι είναι πατέρας ενός παιδιού
που «προσφέρεται ως δώρο» στο λυκόφως της ζωής του,
όταν αυτός, όπως και ο Αβραάμ, δεν μπορούσε, δεδομένης
της προχωρημένης ηλικίας του, να αποκτήσει
απογόνους...
Ο Ζαχαρίας δεν μπορούσε να κατανοήσει μια τέτοια
υπόσχεση- χρειαζόταν ένα σημάδι για να πιστέψει, ενώ η
γέννηση ενός παιδιού στα γηρατειά του, που του
ανακοίνωσε ο αρχάγγελος Γαβριήλ (που σημαίνει Ισχυρός
Θεός), θα ήταν μόνο το προοίμιο ενός απείρως πιο
θαυμαστού έργου. Στην πραγματικότητα, αυτή η
ανακοίνωση δεν απευθυνόταν μόνο στο στείρο ζευγάρι
Ζαχαρία-Ελισάβετ, αλλά ήταν μέρος της επιθυμίας του
Θεού να προετοιμάσει έναν «καλοπροαίρετο λαό» για να
δεχτεί τον Σωτήρα. Αυτή είναι η καρδιά της αναγγελίας
αυτής της καλής είδησης! Αλλά μπροστά στον Ζαχαρία, ο
οποίος παρέμεινε επικεντρωμένος στο πρόβλημα των
γηρατειών του και όχι στη θεία δύναμη! Ο Θεός του έδωσε
ένα σημάδι: τη «σιωπή» για να εισέλθει όχι ως
τιμωρημένος για την απιστία του, αλλά ως έκπληκτος στο
μυστήριο ενός Θεού για τον οποίο τίποτα δεν είναι
αδύνατο!
Αντιμέτωποι με τα προβλήματα της ζωής μας, με τις
δοκιμασίες κάθε είδους, με τις ατυχίες που μας
ταλαιπωρούν και με τον πειρασμό να τα παρατήσουμε και
να απελπιστούμε για τα πάντα, αμφιβάλλουμε κι εμείς για
τη δύναμη της χάρης του Κυρίου, που δεν παύει ποτέ να
μας αναγγέλλει τα καλά νέα, να μας στέλνει την υπόσχεση
της σωτηρίας δια του Υιού του, Ιησού Χριστού.
Αναρωτιόμαστε πώς θα μας σώσει ο Θεός και πώς θα
παρέμβει στη ζωή μας.... Έχουμε την πίστη του Αβραάμ;
Θα τολμήσουμε να ελπίζουμε παρά την ελπίδα όπως ο
Αβραάμ ή θα είμαστε άπιστοι όπως ο Ζαχαρίας;
Πιστεύουμε ακόμα ότι ο χρόνος του Θεού δεν είναι ο
χρόνος της ανυπομονησίας μας, ότι η λογική του Θεού
είναι απείρως αντίθετη από τη δική μας και ότι «οι κρίσεις
του είναι ανεξιχνίαστες και οι δρόμοι του ακατανόητοι»; Ο
Θεός γνωρίζει ότι χρειαζόμαστε ωριμότητα για να
εισέλθουμε στο Μυστήριό Του- γνωρίζει τι είναι σωστό
για μας κάθε στιγμή... και η εκπλήρωση της υπόσχεσής
Του προς εμάς θα έρθει στον επιλεγμένο χρόνο... Καθώς ο
Θεός Πατέρας μας προετοιμάζει να υποδεχτούμε το
μυστήριο της παρουσίας Του ανάμεσά μας μέσω της
γέννησης του Υιού Του Ιησού, μας προκαλεί στην πίστη
μας. Είμαστε έτοιμοι, προσωπικά και μαζί ως Εκκλησία,
να αναλάβουμε αυτή την πρόκληση;

Προσευχή: Θεέ μου! Πιστεύω σε Σένα, αύξησε την πίστη
μου κάθε μέρα. Δώσε μου μια καρδιά που προσεύχεται σε
Σένα, σιωπηλά, για να δεχτώ την υπόσχεση της σωτηρίας
Σου που πραγματοποιήθηκε στον Ιησού Χριστό, τον Κύριό
μας. Σε ικετεύω για τη χάρη να πιστέψω στο αδύνατο, να
πιστέψω ότι η Αγάπη Σου κάνει θαύματα και να
μαρτυρήσω ότι μόνο Εσύ είσαι η μόνη μας Ελπίδα ενάντια
σε κάθε ελπίδα. Αμήν.

3rd Sunday of Advent
The Annunciation to Zechariah
Luke 1:1-25

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

With the proclamation to Zechariah, we enter directly into the season of
Advent according to the liturgical calendar of our Maronite Church. Our
renewed commitment to our faith in Christ is further illuminated by
meditating on two Old Testament figures: Abraham and Zechariah. What
they have in common is that they both received a promise from the Lord.
Both men's faith in God and their hope in the impossible were put to the
test. However, a difference emerges.
While Abraham, as St. Paul tells us in his letter to the Romans, hoped
against hope, believed and did not waver in his faith when, almost a
hundred years old, although he considered that his body was already
marked by death and that Sarah could no longer bear children, we discover
the priest Zechariah, representative of the people, considered righteous
before God, offering a sacrifice in His name, shows a certain perplexity
in welcoming the good news of being the father of a child "offered as a
gift" in the twilight of his life, when he, like Abraham, could not, given
his advanced age, have offspring...

Zechariah could not understand such a promise; he needed a sign to
believe, whereas the birth of a child in his old age, announced by the angel
Gabriel (meaning Mighty God), would only be the prelude to an infinitely
more marvelous work. In fact, this announcement was not only addressed
to the barren couple Zechariah-Elizabeth, but was part of God's desire to
prepare a "well-disposed people" to receive the Savior. This is at the heart
of the proclamation of this good news! But in front of Zechariah, who
remained focused on his problem of old age, not on divine power! God
gave him a sign: the "silence" to enter not as punished for his incredulity,
but as amazed in the mystery of a God for whom nothing is impossible!
We too, faced with the problems of our lives, with trials of every kind,
with the misfortunes that beset us, and with the temptation to give up and
despair of everything, doubt the power of the Lord's grace, who never
ceases to announce Good News to us, to send us a promise of salvation in
his own Son, Jesus Christ. We wonder how God will save us, and how He
intervenes in our lives.... Do we have the faith of Abraham? Will we dare
to hope against hope like Abraham, or will we be unbelievers like
Zechariah?
Do we still believe that God's time is not the time of our impatience, that
God's logic is infinitely opposed to ours and that "his judgments are
unfathomable and his ways incomprehensible! God knows that we need
maturity to enter into His Mystery; He knows what is right for us at every
moment... and the fulfilment of His promise to us will come at the chosen
hour...
As we prepare to welcome the mystery of His presence among us through
the birth of His Son Jesus, God the Father challenges us in our faith, will
we be ready personally and together as Church to take up this challenge?

Prayer:
Lord! I believe in You, increase my faith every day. Give me a heart that
prays to You, in silence, to welcome the promise of Your salvation
realized in Jesus Christ Our Lord. I beg you for the grace to believe in the
impossible, to believe that Your Love works miracles and that I bear
witness that You alone are our only Hope against all hope. Amen.
