The Religious Leader’s meeting

Friday, February 16, 2024, a meeting gathered the religious leaders (or their representatives) in Cyprus at the Maronite Archbishopric of Cyprus, where they exchanged important ideas and fraternity feelings. A fellowship dinner followed the meeting at the archbishopric.

Twinning Agreement: Larnaca-Jounieh

Friday, February 16, 2024, a twinning agreement was signed in the municipality of Larnaca in Cyprus between the city of Larnaca, represented by its mayor, Mr. Enrias Veras, and the city of Jounieh, represented by its mayor, Sheikh Joan Hobeish, in the presence of The Maronite Archbishop of Cyprus H.E. Msgr. Bishop Selim Sfeir, and the parish priest, Father Akl Abou Nader, His Excellency the Lebanese Ambassador to Cyprus, H.E. Mrs. Claude Hajal, Father Ibrahim Khaita, priest of Saint Maron Limassol Church in Limassol, as well as many other social figures from Cyprus and Lebanon.

Saint Maron, Αγίος Μάρωνας 2024

Assisted by the Maronite priests, and surrounded by may bishops and priests from the sister churches, the Maronite Archbishop of Cyprus, H.E. Msgr. Selim Sfeir, presided the Holy Liturgy of the Feast of the Maronite church patron, Saint Maron, in the “Our Lady of Graces” cathedral in Nicosia, on February 11, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.

The holy mass was attended by:

H.E. the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Chritodoulidis and the First Lady Mrs. Philipa Karssera Christodoulidi.

His Excellency Bishop Porfyrios of Neapolis representing His Beatitude Archbishop Georges the Third, Archbishop of Nova Justiniana and all Cyprus. As well as many Metropolitans from the Greek Orthodox Church of Cyprus.

Mr. Nikos Tornarides, Representing H.E. Mrs. Annita Demetriou, the president of the House of Parliament.

H.E. Mr. Antonis Liatsos, President of the supreme court of Cyprus.

Mr. Yannakis Moussa, The Maronite Representative in the house of Parliament.

H.E. Mrs. Claude El Hajjal, Ambassador of Lebanon to Cyprus and dean of Diplomats.

The Most Reverend Msgr. Mauro Lalli, Chargé d’affaires of the Vatican Embassy in Cyprus.

The most Reverend Msgr. Bruno Varriano, Patriarchal Vicar of the Latin Community in Cyprus.

H.E. Mr. Makis Keravnos, Minister of Finance of the republic of Cyprus.

H.E. Mrs. Marilena Raounaa, Deputy Minister of European affairs.

H.E. Mrs. Anna Aristotelous, Presidential Commissioner for Humanitarian Issues and Overseas Cypriots.

Mr. Michel Matta, President of the Maronite Council of Lebanon.

Mr. Contstantinos Yorgatzis , Mayor of Nicosia.

Mr. Andreas Papacharalambos, Mayor of Strovolos.

The Heads and Representatives of all the Political Parties of the Parliament, some members of the parliament, the representative of the Armenian Community, the Head and representatives of “The Local community council of our Maronite Villages”, former ministers and former Maronite representatives, representatives of the National Guards and Police Forces, and many ambassadors and diplomatic representatives and officials,

As well as many priests and nuns and consecrated, who raised their voices in praise for the Lord in this occasion.

The Maronite Choir served and tuned the hymns of the holy mass, elevating the attendees into heavenly spirituals.

The Inauguration of the Apostolic Nunciature

January 26, 2024, Religious and official Cypriot leaders with ambassadors and official representatives came together for the inauguration of the Apostolic Nunciature, the embassy of the Holy See in Cyprus.
H.E. the Deputy of the Secretariat of State of H.H. Pope Francis, Msgr. Edgar Peña Parra with H.B. Archbishop Georgios and the Apostolic Nuncia, H.E. Msgr. Giovanni Pietro Dal Toso, H.E. The Minister of Communication & Works of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Alexis Vafeades, came together to cut the ribbon.
The Maronite Archbishop of Cyprus, H.E. Msgr. Selim Sfeir and many Maronite priests were there with the Maronite representative in the parliament, Mr. Yannakis Moussas.

The Prayer for the Christian Unity

Within the framework of "The Week for Prayer for the Unity of the Church", The Maronite Archbishop of Cyprus, H.E. Msgr. Selim Sfeir, hosted the ecumenical prayer at "Saint Maron" chapel in the Maronite Archbishopric of Cyprus on Januray 22, 2024.
H.E. Msgr. Sfeir welcomed the attendees, opening his heart and the premises of the archbishopric to the Christian family gathered for this prayer, saying: “this is your home!”
The prayer was attended by:
F. Demosthenous, representing H.B. Georgios, The Archbishop of Cyprus.
The Armenian Orthodox Archbishop of Cyprus, H.E. Msgr. Khoren Doghramadjian.
F. Jeremias, from the Coptic Orthodox Church in Cyprus.
Rev. Telis Tsinoglou, from the Synod of the Evangelical Church of Cyprus
F. Jamica representing Msgr. Bruno Varriano, The Latin Patriarchal Vicar for Cyprus
And the Host, The Archbishop of the Maronite Church in Cyprus, H.E. Msgr. Selim Sfeir.
Many faithful from the mentioned above churches, attended the prayer and performed songs from their ecclesiastical tradition in a beautiful atmosphere of fraternity.
The prayer was crowned by a simultaneous recitation of the Lord’s Prayer in different languages as in a Pentecostal performance.
